Autumn is officially upon us and I am welcoming it with opening arms. Day to day, I’ve been reaching for a few reliable items in my closet, and have even added in some new ones. I’ll be sharing those below along with some tunes so you can truly enter into my headspace this fall.
Starting off with a classic fall item, I’ve been wearing my wool tartan skirts week in and week out.
This particular one is a vintage Pendleton that I got on Depop a couple of years ago. With temperatures still on the warmer side, I’ve been pairing it with tucked in tees, either blank or with graphics that pull colors from within the tartan. In the same vein, I’m also a big fan of kilts and have included a few from various secondhand shopping apps on my Zeen.
Sweatshirts are another no-brainer fall staple and playing around with the sizing can create a completely different look. I’ve been loving these super shrunken, presumably children’s sized ones. The navy one is a 1983 US Open sweatshirt and I leaned further into the tennis vibes with the skirt. The cyan sweatshirt is from a vintage athletic brand called “Track & Court”. I wore it with my corduroy pants as I wanted to take it in a more ivy/prep direction, much like the photos below.
I was unable to resist the urge to buy something new this season (and most definitely will a few times more).
I ended up snagging a pair of the Adidas x Brain Dead Stan Smiths after falling in love with the pink pair via the teaser images on instagram. The suede details, colored soles, and overall vintage feel drew me in. Because they sold out on the Brain Dead site, I had no choice but to enter the draw on Adidas Confirmed which was way more stressful for me than it should’ve been. In the end, they’ve blended in quite seamlessly with my wardrobe, which is just so serendipitous.
Finally, an accessory that I have been vouching for all year, the award ribbon! Recently, I’ve just been wearing mine pinned onto different bags as a bonus detail. A logical transition from bow-mania, I’ve seen the motif pop up on a few recent runways, including a more floral version at Sandy Liang and forming an entire dress at Hodakova.
If you’re like me and love things more when they’re vintage, there are a plethora of options out there on eBay, Etsy, and anything in between. I’ve pulled a few of them here.
Onto music! I never leave the house without something playing in my ears, it helps make commuting to classes and work just a bit better. Right now, there are four albums that I keep returning to and whose songs keep popping up on my playlists.
Brick Factory and Enter the Vaselines are more on the punky/twee side with poppy, yet sometimes crass lyrics sung by pitchy voices over fuzzy guitars. If you are a fan of Beat Happening then I think you’d enjoy.
I Love you Jennifer B is an album that came out in 2022 yet I feel like I am way too late to. The third track, “Greatest Hits”, had been floating around on a few of my playlists for a while but I hadn’t given the full album a listen until a few months ago. If you haven’t already tuned in, I beg you to not make the same mistake I did and give it a listen!
Few albums make me hop on Discogs in search of a physical copy immediately after listening through for the first time but Deux’s Decadence is one that did. A collection of songs from the 80’s electro-pop French duo, Decadence has been my go to walking-around-the-city-feeling-like-i’m-in-a-movie album. Another must-listen especially if you are fond of Kraftwerk and dissonant dance tunes.
As a parting gift, here is an autumn playlist I’ve been adding to with songs from the previously mentioned albums along with others that have piqued my fancy.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this small collection of recent obsessions and I appreciate you for sticking around despite my haphazard posting schedule. To amazing autumn!
I’ve been loving the award ribbon but wasn’t sure how to wear it without it behind too out there for my personal style, but the bag idea is genius!!!
LOVED this post - and love the visual you made on Zeen, it's such an easy way to see all the links in one place !! 🫶🖤
