It feels safe enough to declare that New York has finally emerged from fool’s spring and into the true spring season. It brings my heart immeasurable joy to see temperatures upwards of 55 degrees for multiple days in a row on my weather app, and it just about explodes whenever I get a chance to actually sit in the sun. My allergies haven’t even begun to hit me too hard just yet, so it’s been an overall pleasant time. Now, with the entirety of Kitty Craft’s Beats and Breaks from the Flower Patch streaming through my headphones on loop, I am very eager to share with you some of what I’d like to wear and have been wearing this spring.

One item that has spent more time on my body than on a hanger this season is this vintage cotton slip skirt. I purchased it on depop during the beginning of last year and considered reselling it at one point, but I’m glad I held onto it. What attracted me to this skirt in particular was its cotton construction, (silks are too sweaty for me), and the crochet lace panel and hem. The lace provides a little glimpse of my legs (which can now be free without tights!) I’ve worn it with a few different sweaters a few different times, and I enjoyed each combination. The sweater keeps me warm up top, while the skirt flows in the breeze and as I walk.

I also love wearing it with graphic tees when it’s a bit warmer out. I own just about two pairs of shorts that I actually like so this is a great alternative to those.

Next is a very specific spring wishlist item. I first saw this top by the brand Local Woman on tiktok sometime during the fall and it has stayed in my mind ever since. This is their Claire Blouse, aka the voluminous cotton Pierrot-esque top of my dreams. The red circus striped one is my personal favorite. They are understandably pricy which is one of the reasons why I don’t own it already. Another reason why I don’t own it yet is because I stumbled across a worthy alternative:

This is a Zara shirt that I got for $25 at a secondhand shop and it has already brought me a lot of joy. So far, my favorite way I’ve worn it has been with a little pair of gingham shorts, which one of the previously mentioned two pairs of shorts I own that I actually like. I plan on trying it out underneath a pair of overalls, with the bow tied to hang over the bib. I’m very excited to see if it works out how I envision.
These shoes have been a recurring character throughout these images so I think it’s finally time to introduce them! These are Casi Myra mary jane flats from Camper. I went to their store during the summer to try on a pair of their Right mary janes but didn’t love how they looked on me. These, however are so perfect. Super comfy, soft, and remind me of candy. They are also holding up quite nicely considering how often I’m on my feet. I’m really saying nothing new, just noting that I too enjoy a little red shoe!
My honorable mention spring favs include tucking a tee into a kilt or any other pleated plaid skirt, tying a sweater around your shoulders in a non “quiet luxury” or “old money way”, and wearing pretty much anything you’d wear in the winter, minus the heavy coat. Thank you for reading!
I’m so feeling the slip skirt & graphic t combo. I gotta go find one!
Your slip skirt > everyone else’s!!
